How do I copyright my work online?

I have written a number of self-help and counselling articles and wish to publish them online. However, I am worried that they could be copied or someone else could claim to be their own. Is there anyway that I can protect my work if I publish it online and prevent others from claiming it to be their own?

if you wrote them "in fixed form", such as saving to a file, they are already copyright.
if you care about suing people, then register the copyrights.
as for preventing people from copying or pilfering your works, you have the same options as anyone else. If you feel those won’t work for you, then you simply should not publish the articles.
see copyright.gov for details on registration and chillingeffects.org on one way to have pilfered online articles taken down.
